The guiding opinions on promoting the development of energy storage technology and industry recently issued by the national development and Reform Commission put forward that the relevant work will be promoted in two stages in the next 10 years, in which the transition from R & D demonstration to the initial stage of commercialization will be realized during the 13th five year plan period; During the "fourteenth five year plan" period, the initial stage of commercialization was changed to large-scale development. The issuance of the guidance on energy storage industry marks that China's energy storage industry is moving from demonstration projects to commercial applications.

Energy storage technology is a key technology to achieve large-scale access to renewable energy and improve the efficiency, security and economy of the power system. It is also an effective means to improve the power generation ratio of clean energy and promote haze control. By the end of 2015, the total installed energy storage capacity in the world was about 167gw, accounting for about 2.9% of the total installed power capacity in the world; China's installed energy storage capacity is 22.8gw, accounting for about 1.7% of the country's total installed power capacity. It is estimated that by 2050, China's installed energy storage capacity will reach 200GW, and the market scale will reach more than 2trillion yuan.

In recent years, with the rapid growth of the application of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, 3C and other fields, the overall output and market scale of global lithium-ion batteries have been rapidly improved. In 2015, the global total output of lithium-ion batteries reached 100.75gwh, a year-on-year increase of 39.45%. From 2005 to 2015, the global lithium battery market grew from US $5.6 billion to US $22.1 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 14.7%; It is estimated that the global lithium battery market will reach US $36.3 billion in 2020, and will continue to remain at a high level.
